NAET

NAET is a radical new treatment approach to allergies, that has recently emerged from America. It is relatively unknown in the UK, with only a hand full of practitioners.

Put quite simply - We believe NAET to be the single most effective treatment for allergies.

And that's from someone who has suffered a life time of allergies, sensitivities & intolerances. Had I not happened across a Canadian NAET Practitioner, that was practicing locally in Heswall (4 miles from my home town of Neston), then I wouldn't be writing this.

For the first time I'd found a treatment that didn't just help, but was actually addressing the underlying cause of my problems. If this sounds dramatic, then I make no apology. If you or someone you know has reached the point of being 'sick of being sick', tired all the time (TAT), or any of a wide range of chronic conditions, then your probably in the right place.

In short - any condition associated with or the person has accompanying allergies, sensitivities, intolerances or indeed anything that is related to the immune system dysfunction could potentially be helped by NAET. That said, it seems that many are completely unaware that certain foods aggravate their arthritis, migraine or even asthma, when asthma is a classic allergy related problem.

Allergy - Allergic Disease, Allergic Disorders, Allergic Illness

Viennese paediatrician Baron Clemens von Pirquet coined the term "allergy" (from the Greek "allos" meaning changed or altered state and "ergon" meaning reaction or reactivity) in 1906 [ 1 ]. Von Pirquet used the term to describe an altered reaction he had observed in patients, which he put down to the influence of external factors, an allergen , on the immune system.

Allergies are hypersensitivity reactions of the immune system to specific substances called allergens (such as pollen, stings, drugs, or food ) that, in most people, result in no symptoms .

The most severe form of allergy is Anaphylactic shock , which is a medical emergency.

Various types of classifications exist.
Allergy has different names depending upon where in body it occurs.

Are Allergies The Hidden Cause Of Your Illness?

Allergies are still one of the best kept secrets of medicine. In the 20th century, our biggest enemy and cause of disease is no longer microbes but our inability to tolerate relatively "new" foods like wheat and diary products. The other hidden enemy is the 70,000 chemicals circulating in our environment to unknown effect.
Asthma, arthritis, eczema, irritable bowel syndrome, lupus, MS, ME, plus mental illnesses like depression have as part or all of their cause substance intolerance.

According to Allergy Magazine - What to try...NAET

A new form of alternative therapy called NAET is proving popular in America and France. We look at what it can offer to allergy sufferers here in the UK words: roz lewis

It doesn’t have a very good name. It isn’t particularly well known, and it has very few advocates from the medical field to say that it works. However, NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques) has a growing band of practitioners in the UK – and much larger numbers in the States and on the Continent – who are thrilled with what this alternative therapy can do for allergy sufferers. www.allergymagazine.com

We do not make false promises and if medical intervention is indicated, then we will point you in the right direction. On the other hand if you have a problem & the conventional medical approach has done little to help, then maybe it's time to look at it a different way.

Food & Other Allergies, Sensitivities & Intolerances

Food allergies in particular are largely disregarded by the UK medical establishment. A quote from one their standard texts (Davidson's Principles & Practice of Medicine, 19th edition) will put you in the picture.Food allergies are immune-mediated disorders due to IgE antibodies and type 1 hypersensitivity reactions. Up to 20% of the population perceive themselves as suffering from food allergy but only 1-2% of adults have genuine food allergies. The most common culprits are peanuts, milk, eggs, soya and shellfish. So now you know why you may not have been taken seriously if you've been to your doctor with suspected food allergy related problems.Another quote of interest from the same text. The diagnosis of food allergy is difficult to prove or refute. Skin prick tests and measurements of antigen-specific IgE antibodies in serum have limited predictive value.Essentially this means that this test is known to be unreliable and as for the treatment:-strict elimination of the offending antigen (allergen) and in some cases antihistamines or sodium cromogliate. Anaphylaxis should be treated as a medical emergency with resuscitation, airway support and intravenous adrenaline (epinephrine). So unless you have a very obvious & immediate reaction, such as a large rash or collapse into anaphylactic shock, then you're probably not going to be taken too seriously. If you just get symptoms regarded as trivial in the above book i.e.

  • Joint pain & aches, prone to inflammation & low 'pain threshold' - relieved by avoiding citrus fruits, sugar, certain grains (especially wheat), etc.
  • Excessive wind - aggravated by milk, sugar, bread, etc.
  • Constipation or IBS - aggravated by eggs & any of the above.
  • Poor memory & concentration - as above.
  • Excessive fatigue, tired on waking, Tired All the Time (TAT), the need to have to 'drive' yourself all the time - as above.
  • Insomnia, poor quality of sleep general & irritability.

Or you may be aware of some intolerance, sensitivity or allergy, from experience &/or from having an allergy test.

  • Hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) - aggravated by local &/or seasonal pollens, etc. More
  • Lactose intolerance - the sugar found in milk, milk products & used as an additive in processed foods. Being able to digest lactose is entirely dependent on the ability to produce the specific enzyme called lactase, that breaks it down into its component sugars. We may be born unable to produce lactase or we can loose this ability due to long term (chronic) stress or illness. It's recognised in the US as being up to 10% of those of Asian origin & 1% of Caucasians. Unfortunately in the UK - the Orthodox Medical view is that Caucasians don't get this unless they have a serious bowel disease. There are even simple tests for this, but they typically aren't done. This is especially unfortunate for those that are unable to speak for themselves, such as the new born suffering with colic. Parents often told that they'll grow out of it, which they may, but how long are you prepared to let them suffer. As well as excess & trapped wind, other symptoms typically include;- excessive mucous production, headaches, sinusitis (sinus pain) & swelling of the mucous membranes throughout the respiratory & intestinal tracts. Most noticeably resulting in the narrowing of the nasal passages when no mucous is present.
  • Asthma - aggravated by animal dander (fur, hair & skin cells), house dust & dust mites, etc.

These are just a few examples off the top of my head & by no means exhaustive, but hopefully enough for you to get the general idea.

Summary

You may have 'hidden' allergies undermining your general health, when you may not have considered that you may be reacting to foods & substances in the environment. These can cause a huge range of symptoms, including some that may have been diagnosed as other conditions.

That if you have any known allergies, then you may well have other underlying allergies that all put strain on your immune system causing it to react inappropriately to every day substances.

That, now there is a treatment that could potentially clear these allergies, so that you may again be able to eat & do what you like without fear of allergic reaction.

NAET

NAET is based on Traditional Chinese Medical theory & practice, but does not require acupuncture needles or herbs. It is a gentle, 'hands on', non-invasive treatment approach. It is aimed at addressing what is believed to be the underlying the cause.

It is not based on treating the symptoms like taking antihistamines or steroids that may have potentially harmful side effects.

Any avoidance of offending substances is usually no longer than 25 hours after treatment for a particular allergen or group of allergic substances . Other approaches using long term avoidance can lead to an increase in sensitivity to the substance, causing a more severe reaction should further contact occur.

People of all ages & dispositions may be treated with NAET.

Typically NAET seems to help with all allergies and allergy related disorders, although in the most severe cases i.e. peanut/nut allergy causing anaphylaxis, then the allergic reaction may not clear 100%. Therefore in certain cases avoidance may still be advised. Having said that a reduction in severity in reaction could, literally mean the difference between life and death.

Autoimmune Disorders

Some NAET practitioners (including myself) have also had a significant improvement with people with certain autoimmune conditions. You may ask - How can that be? Well autoimmune conditions are literally like an allergic reaction to one of the bodies own tissues or organs. In fact they used to be called an autoallergy. So with NAET one would use the same principle. E.g. Instead of say, treating with a sample vial for say fish or nuts, then one would use a vial for thyroid tissue, related hormones, etc. (for an autoimmune under active thyroid). Obviously things tend to be more complicated than that and the thyroid tissue already destroyed may not be able to recover, but that's the general principle.
We're not suggesting that NAET is a 'quick fix' miraculous 'cure all' for all autoimmune conditions, but there have been many cases of significant improvement that seem to support the theory. With the orthodox medical approach being largely based on hormone replacement, steroids and immune system suppressant drugs, then I for one would certainly want to try and improve my long term health with NAET. NB Any changes to medications taken would need to be discussed with and advised by your GP.

NAET© Treatment FAQ’s

Can I just be treated for pollen for my hay fever?

For environmental allergies i.e. seasonal pollens, then we almost always find that there are underlying food / nutrient sensitivies, that need to be addressed first. Just to treat for pollens may work for that season, but the effect is unlikely to be permanent, so the problem would re-occur next year. For more on this see NAET Treatment Process Page.

How many allergens can be addressed each visit?

Initially only one allergen per visit. The early allergens tested for are mostly Mixes and cover an whole group of potential allergens anyway. Once a sufficient number of these are cleared, then some combination treatments, may need to be done. Also, some allergens are treated together. For example, vitamin A can be treated with fish and shellfish. Yogurt, yeast and whey can all be treated together. Salt and chlorides are another combination may be treated together.

Does the patient know what is in the sample vial being tested?

The patient, ideally, does not consciously know what they are being tested for. By them not knowing - this effectively removes the psychological or psychosomatic issue from the testing. Once the patient understands this, the are usually quite happy to be tested without knowing what they are being tested for. This is on the understanding that they will not be unknowingly tested for anything that they are severely allergic to, without clearing all related allergens first and working up to it.

Is this test reliable?

It's quite reasonable to ask - How do I know that the practitioner doesn't just push harder, if they think I have a certain allergy? The muscle test system itself has been research tested against the use of a dynamometer, which is essentially an instrument with a dial that indicates grip strength when squeezed. The result was that there was over a 90% consistency between the two types of testing. So why don't NAET practitioners all use dynamometers? Well, they are advertised in the NAET literature, but they are not cheap and the testing & treatments would all take a great deal longer. It also removes the intuitive factor from the testing & treatment procedure. The founders of NAET don't tend to talk about this, as I presume they feel it may jeopardise they're scientific credibility. My personal view is that it is no more or less scientific to consider this. NAET, like applied kinesiology or, indeed any system that uses any form of muscle response testing, without the use of an instrument, such as, a dynamometer is only as good as the practitioner and their ability to test objectively.

How do you know if an allergen has cleared?

Any allergen previously treated for is rechecked at the next appointment. Ideally this should be retested within a few weeks time, especially after the initial treatments.

How often do you advise treatments?

The rate at which you can receive treatments for allergy elimination depends on your current state of health and strength of your immune system. Generally speaking, most people can handle up to three treatments per week if they desire. If your immune system is weak you may be limited to one treatment per week and in the initial stages we tend this, until you have checked clear for the Basic 15 items, after which frequency can be increased as desired. You should discuss that possibility with your practitioner, as everyone is different, but the allergen you were last treated for should ideally be clear, before treating for the next allergen.
